I want her as my colleague!

In anticipation of our reading group starting in August, I've been reading Nussbaum's eloquent and careful defense of the place of the humanities in education in Not for Profit. But for every Nussbaum, the humanities also need a bomb thrower. Meet the University of Minnesota's Eva von Dassow! (Comments most welcome.)

  1. I don't know if you are suggesting that it's not, but her defense is is "eloquent" and "careful" also!

  2. Anon, no I wasn't suggesting it was ineloquent or careless. But it certainly pulls no punches and gets straight to the point!

  3. Wonderfully articulated and to the point. Once again points out the damage that is being done by universities incorporating a business modal where market relevance, cost, and efficiency are the standards to be met. This problem extends to the political level where we see politicians pushing for more 'competitive' educational modals so that we can compete economically.

  4. I wonder if she would have said this without tenure.

    Just sayin'. :)
