Facilitator Training Seminar

“To Improve The Quality Of Instruction In Philosophy At All Levels”
The AAPT Aims To Develop A Cadre Of Faculty Developers To Lead Teaching And Learning Workshops Regarding Philosophy Across The U.S. And Beyond
Location:                        College St. Benedict/St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN
Date:                                    July 30 – August 3, 2014

Application Deadline:            February 15, 2014
Description
Participants will review best practices in teaching and learning, practice successful workshop facilitation techniques, peer review workshop designs, and examine the fundamentals of workshop administration.
 Attendance
Participants are required to attend all sessions, which will be held July 30 – August 3, 2014 in conjunction with the American Association of Philosophy Teachers Biennial conference in Collegeville, MN
Fees & Waivers
The seminar is free.
Participants are encouraged to attend the regular AAPT conference sessions when the seminar is not meeting, Conference registration, the cost of meals and lodging, and travel expenses will be the responsibility of the participants.

Description
Through readings and interactive experiences, seminar participants will explore issues, experiment with approaches, and engage in a community of reflection in order to strengthen their pedagogical choices. Participants will study how to identify and select challenging and transformative learning objectives and, by understanding the principles of integrated course design, participants will examine how to best guide students to the successful achievement of these goals. Topics will include: preparing to teach, developing learning-centered courses, using traditional and non-traditional methods of assessment, and engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The friendships and collegial relationships built here can last a lifetime.

Attendance
Participants are required to attend all sessions, which will be held 8am-5pm, Sunday, April 20, 2014 after the Pacific Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association.

Fees & Waivers
The seminar is free. However, registration for the Pacific APA meeting is required: http://www.apaonline.org/events/event_details.asp?id=322572

A book and lunch will be provided. The Pacific Division of the American Philosophical Association generously offers travel grants of up to $300 for a number of participants. Recipients of APA travel grants must be members of the APA.
